Being intentional in your life means a few things.
Firstly it means getting organised and bringing awareness to many different areas or aspects of your life.
Secondly it means that we influence what happens in our lives, how we spend our time and ultimately the results, experiences, feelings and enjoyment we get out of them.
So it makes sense to apply the same logic to our businesses too.
And whilst so many people may advise keeping business and our personal lives separate in some areas I personally disagree on that being a possibility at all because lets face it – we get into running our own businesses because of the fulfilment and freedom it can bring to our lives.
Also it’s our state of being that influences EVERYTHING not only our personal lives but our businesses, our relationships, our sensuality, our sense of belonging and embodiment – everything touches everything so its impossible to separate the two out.
It’s for that reason that personal development can be used as an incredible tool in your business strategy the intentionality, the creativity, the energy and the focus that you put into your life and mirroring the exact same within your business.
SO WHAT DOES BEING INTENTIONAL ACTUALLY MEAN?
Being intentional means becoming aware that we have choice.
It means no longer working through habit in a way that we have been taught but seeking out what resonates with us and us alone – empowering us to no longer settle but to take leadership of shaping our own lives and futures.
And living and working this way changes EVERYTHING because when you’re free from the ‘rules’ of working the same way as other people, as you’ve been taught, you’re also free to listen to your own rhythm, your own higher calling, your own creativity and to forge your way forward. And doing that means more fulfilment for you, more standing out from the crowd, more progression in your business, life and towards your vision.
Being intentional for me came from investing heavily in a series of different programmes and coaches and finding that I either didn’t achieve the results I wanted or something just felt ‘off’ and didn’t resonate with who I was and how I wanted to live and work.
You could say that it came from a process of trial and error (every cloud! – also why ‘failure’ can be so freaking beneficial!) but regardless of how it happened being able to create consciously can be completely transformative to your perception of yourself, the energy you feel in your body and your joy which of course means that if you’re in the experience of all of that goodness – it’s also going into your business – and coming out of your business in return (I’ll write more on the energetics of business and marketing soon!) because – science.
How do we apply this practically to our lives and businesses?
Obviously there are many ways to go about implementing becoming more intentional in your life and bringing your attention to one thing at a time can be great because once you do you start seeing how it links to other things, how your state of being influences your energy, how that influences your enthusiasm, productivity, procrastination and so on.
When I begin work with a new client we go through a series of exercises or conversations around where they are with things in their life currently and I have them rate major areas on a scale of 1-10 so we can build a clear picture of what changes need to take place for new opportunities and results to happen.
I’d encourage you to do the same to get a real overview of where you are – your current satisfaction, energy levels, enjoyment and results. Write down 10 or more major areas of your life and rate them on a scale of 1-10.
You could for example take the categories:
Wellness (I always relate wellness to a state of well being – mentally, energetically, physically)
Rate them and then go further to list why you’ve rated them that way – what’s going well, what are you enjoying, what’s not going so well and how can you create change in that area?
Bringing your awareness to each facet of your life in this way means taking time out of the noise and must do, to do, should do’s and listening to your self – finding your inner voice, your connection with your higher self and determining how you do want to be living.
It’s a really nourishing exercise to do and gives you simple steps to take to move forward in each area of your life and business whilst also connecting you with yourself, with your heart and soul over the instruction of trends or other peoples opinions.
You can do this exercise every few months to review your progression and plan out what to do next, or do it monthly and figure out why you have or haven’t stuck to creating the small changes or next steps you had planned out for yourself and in doing so you’ll begin to identify any blocks to your progression forward in all areas of your life.
