We’ve all heard about setting boundaries in our businesses but do you really know the benefits on your well being and business success?
First let me ask you:
How much of your time are you spending on things that don’t make you happy?
It’s a huge question so give it some thought and if your answer is ‘too much’ then my friend its time to set some boundaries – something I didn’t always have in my business that left me feeling exhausted, working all hours and enjoying the business I set up to enjoy life more a heck of a lot less.
The truth is that the majority of people spend way too much time worrying and stressing over things they feel obliged to do, things they don’t particularly want to do, things they don’t enjoy as much as other things and that moves us towards burn out and exhaustion.
And yes whilst of course we do still need to commit to doing some things that don’t top our list when it come to the enjoyment factor (washing up anyone?) what I’m really talking about here are those acts that create stress, anxiety, worry and resentment in our bodies – even on a teeny tiny scale because hey it all adds up.
So tell me, is there a big gap between how much you work and how much you live?
Because here’s what’s really going on: biologically you’re training your mind and your body to believe that reality needs to include suffering, that it needs to be stressful, that we need to be prepared for things to be hard, to feel happy only a certain amount of the time.
And of course in doing so it makes it even harder for us to believe that living and working can come from a place of ease and once our beliefs are set then guess what – our actions and our reality is set and so too is our success rate.
In the coaching world it’s fairly common advice that we have to set boundaries around us if we want to progress, if we want to really hone in our focus on creating more money, more clients, more productivity. But no one ever mentions the fact that setting boundaries makes us more happy, more joyful, more energised and that it’s those feelings, that energy that spurs us into momentum and action.
Our success is determined by our energy.
Our health, well being, hormones, emotions and thoughts are determined by our energy.
Our ability to manifest, to create, to quantum create opportunities is determined by our energy.
Our happiness is determined by our energy and so too is our enjoyment of life, business and how we spend our time.
Not having boundaries in our business, working with clients that we don’t particularly want to work with, doing things we feel obliged but really resent doing builds stress in your body, in your central nervous system, it creates a divide between you and what it is that you desire both energetically and in time, in your reality because your focus and experience is based on that lower vibrational energy or emotion.
And that’s not even mentioning that lower energetic state of stress – even momentary but repetitive – creates disharmony in our bodies making our thoughts erratic, disorganised, our hormones and emotions unbalanced. This leaves us feeling low, overwhelmed and feeling unable to progress, get back to feeling confident or experience the full range of joyful emotions let alone move forward towards our goals.
Then bingo – burnout comes knocking on our doors which is something we should all be protecting ourselves from.
If alternatively however you spent more time doing the things you love, more time in joy, more time moving towards fulfilment, accomplishment, gratitude naturally you both move towards manifesting your desires faster (quantum creation doesn’t know time, energy matches can happen in an instant) and obviously your enjoyment of life and business rises too as you become more present to your life, to the time you’re spending and the joy you’re experiencing.
I’ll get more into quantum creation in another post but suffice to say that thanks to science (quantum physics) we get a very real way to form our own path and our own strategy to creating what it is we desire and yes it works for whatever you set your mind AND energy towards.
So how do we go about setting boundaries that benefit us?
Quite simply we stop doing the things we think we SHOULD do.
And yes I know how big a task that may seem so let’s break it down.
We’re focusing on business here so where in your business are you doing things that you think you SHOULD do rather than what feels aligned?
For years I spent time posting on social media everyday because I thought I had to do that to be visible and make money in my business but the amount of time I spent on social media did not equate the amount of money that I was making in my business. So when I restructured my marketing I saved myself 10+ hours of social media scrolling, stress and daily headaches over creating the ‘perfect’ social media post and yes now the money I make in my business is much more aligned with the amount of time that I invest into it AND it feels simple which gives me less stress, more enjoyment, more fulfilment, more desire to create, more personal expression and all of that together gives me more opportunity to make more clients, more money, more progress.

- Where am I doing what I think I SHOULD do?
- What would I do if I didn’t already know how in these areas?
- What is it that I feel obliged to do in my life or business?
- Which actions on my list feel most enjoyable?
- What can I take out of my to do list?
- What can I delegate or automate?
- What would my perfect work day look like?
- How can I make my working process more enjoyable?
- What are my non-negotiables? (spending quality time with loved ones but working too late?)
- How is not having boundaries in place affecting my energy and enjoyment of my life and business?
